CLASSICAL MUSIC RETURNS TO DUNVEGAN
Thursday, July 11 th at 7:00 PM, the Glengarry Pioneer Museum will host its
second classical music concert. The first “Music Under the Stars” event took
place in 2017 and was enthusiastically received. And classical music lovers
have been eagerly awaiting its return.
Once again, the event will be held on the grounds of the Glengarry Pioneer
Museum in Dunvegan. This year’s edition will feature cellist Noël Campbell, a
native of Alexandria. A member of the talented Campbell Trio, Noël is a two-
time grand prize winner of the Concours de talent de l’est Ontarien. He
contributed to the albums Celebrating Music in Glengarry, Opus Neige and Noël
en noir et blanc and has also participated in many fundraisers. As well, he
received a Youth of the Year Award, and the Lieutenant Governor’s Community
Volunteer Award. Noël will be accompanied by violinists Anastasia Virlan and
Olga Semionova from Montreal
While there’s no formal admission, the museum is counting on the audience’s
generosity to cover the musicians’ honouraria and, hopefully, raise much-
needed funds for the museum. Volunteers will pass around a hat at intermission
time. The suggested donation is $15 per person.
The plan is to hold the concert… rain or shine. In the case of inclement weather,
the venue will be moved down the road to the Dunvegan Recreation Hall at
19053 County Road 24. However, organizers are hoping Mother Nature will
cooperate and that the concert can be held outdoors at twilight. If this is the
case, audience members are reminded to bring their favourite lawn chair or a
blanket and sufficient bug spray. If you wish, you can even bring a picnic supper
and dine al fresco before the concert.
For those who have never been to the Glengarry Pioneer Museum, it’s located
at the intersection of County Roads 24 and 30. For more details, contact the
museum at 613-527-5230 or visit our web site: GlengarryPioneerMuseum.ca.
